Who are the target customers for MetaFrame?

MetaFrame software is targeted toward customers using Windows NT Server 4.0 and Terminal Server Edition that are seeking a cost-effective way to deploy, manage and access enterprise-class applications, enterprise-wide. MetaFrame extends the reach of Microsoft Terminal Server Edition in the enterprise through: Enterprise Management, Seamless Desktop Integration and support for Heterogeneous Computing Environments.

Why is Citrix doing these new 1.8 releases?

With the introduction of  MetaFrame, Citrix has experienced strong acceptance of this technology and the server-based computing model. Building upon the successes of the earlier releases, the new 1.8 versions focus on enhancements to application management for large scale, enterprise-wide server farm deployments.

What is Program Neighborhood?

Program Neighborhood is a breakthrough in the concept of application publishing and deployment. Program Neighborhood provides for complete administrative control over application access and delivers an even greater level of seamless desktop integration. Icons for server-based applications can now be pushed to the Program Neighborhood client, integrated into the local 32-bit Windows desktop, or pushed directly to the client's Start menu.

Similar in concept to Windows Network Neighborhood, Program Neighborhood provides for total administrative control of applications. Not only do users have an enhanced server-based application experience, but no client configuration is required.

Is MetaFrame  software Year-2000 compliant?

For information regarding  MetaFrame Year-2000 compliance, please see the Y2K section of the Citrix web site at http://www.citrix.com/misc/y2000.htm. MetaFrame is an excellent vehicles for rapidly deploying Y2K compliant applications throughout the enterprise and have proven to save months off of Y2K application deployments.

What ICA clients are available for use with MetaFrame 1.8  ?

There are a number of new ICA clients introduced in MetaFrame 1.8 including new Linux clients for Red Hat, Caldera, SuSE and Slackware and new versions of SCO Unix clients for UnixWare and Open Server.

Citrix provides ICA clients for PCs running DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 9x, Windows NT Workstation, Windows CE, Internet Explorer (ActiveX) and other Web browsers (Plug-in). UNIX and Macintosh clients are also available as well as a Java version of the ICA client for use on devices that support a Java Virtual Machine. Additionally, a number of hardware vendors produce ICA Windows-based terminals, wireless devices and information appliances that can connect to a MetaFrame  server.
